As early as 2002, there was no unified standard in the condom industry. There were only six major testing items: specification, package integrity, lubricant quantity, pinhole, tensile property and bursting property. Due to the prevalence of AIDS in China, the World Health Organization has developed the iso4074 2002 standard, i.e. natural latex condoms - technical requirements and test methods, after studying relevant data and listening to the opinions of relevant industries. This standard clearly specifies the standardization and testing standards of condoms, in which the specifications and dimensions, color fastness, pinhole, tear strength, tensile strength, sealing, tear strength, durability, bursting pressure, visible defects, packaging, marking, storage and other technical indicators and testing methods are clearly described.

After that, with reference to iso4074 2002, the China Bureau of quality supervision and the standards management committee jointly issued GB7544-2004 natural latex rubber condoms - technical requirements and experimental methods. Latex was added to the name to distinguish the products with SR as raw material. GB7544-2004 is basically the same as iso4074 2002, in which the test methods for total lubricant amount and tensile strength are standardized, but no specific technical indicators are specified.

In 2009, the state reissued GB7544-2009, which explained in detail the sampling inspection, product expiration date, definition of identification code, thickness measurement, bursting pressure, hot air aging test, tensile strength formula, etc., making the standard more complete and standardized and becoming the national reference standard for condoms still used today.

In 2010 and 2014, the World Health Organization successively released iso4074 version 2010 and 2014. In addition to some changes in terms and technical standards, the name of the 2014 version was revised to "technical requirements and test methods of natural rubber latex male condom", which mainly added chapters such as biological compatibility, microbial contamination and product requirements. At the same time, it also made interval adjustments to some indicators, such as the original size measurement was within 35mm, Change to 20mm-50mm.
